PFN denies receiving N6bn bribe to influence election

Highly respected leaders of the Pentecostal Fellowship of
Nigeria have debunked the rumour making the rounds that
clerics belonging to PFN were paid N6 billion to influence and
mobilize members of their congregations for the forthcoming
general elections.
Firing the first salvo in his closing remarks at the 13th Bien
nial PFN conference held at the headquarters of The
Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), the president of PFN,
Dr Felix Omobude debunked the ugly rumour attributed to an
unnamed governor and exonerated the body from the
allegation.
He said: “I can assure you that PFN and her leadership are
not part of it. We as a body are asking the governor who
made that allegation to substantiate his claims and name
names.”
He noted that he, as a person, had vehemently resisted that
PFN should serve as a foot soldier to any political party, stat
ing: “We will not be partisan. We have APC members, PDP
members SDP and all the other parties in our churches. So we
will not knock one head against another as leaders.”
General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God,
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, who spoke on the opening night said
he was hurt reading about the N6 billion saga in the news
paper.
He said the clergy had charged whosoever collected any
money from politicians to influence election to return the
money quickly.
His words: “If you receive money to influence election one way
or the other, you are not just selling your vote, you are selling
your anointing and you are even selling your calling. Return
the money quickly and the Almighty God will bless you.”
However, General Overseer of Winners Chapel, Bishop David
Oyedepo dismissed the allegation as a lie from the pit of hell,
stressing that there was nothing like that.
“I’m speaking to you the truth in Christ Jesus because a num
ber of us are close enough to the leadership of our platform
that we should know if anything happens. Therefore, let’s
forgive freely and go our way.
“wWe don’t bother ourselves about what is not true.”
Omobude, however, charged the congregation to bear in mind
that their vote is important to their life, urging them not to
vote into office someone who would turn around to fight them
just because of one bag of rice or garri.
