I am not against the North – Jonathan


President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday reiterated his
unflinching commitment to the cause of North, saying that he
had no reason to hate or work against the interest of the
people from the region.
Speaking in Sokoto at the zonal presidential campaign rally,
he insisted that his administration remained supportive to see
the North through in infrastructure development.
He listed the development projects executed in the North by
his administration to include the railways, establishment of 10
universities, Almajiri schools, Green Great Wall project and the
effort to eradicate polio, among other diseases in the region.
“I said polio must stop in the North, if I did not like the North,
I will not want to stop polio. I will not support farmers from
the North. I established Almajiri schools to boost the basic
education system in the North. Let them tell us what they
have done? Jonathan queried.
He said his administration has kept faith with commitments to
ensure Nigerians were better off in so many areas of human
developments.
“I am particularly concerned about the education of the
Nigerian child who should access same for a sound foundation
for self and nation-building”, he said.
He pledged to focus on the Goronyo and Shagari dams in an
effort to demonstrate commitment to boost agriculture and
utilise appropriately the potentials of the dam.
Also speaking, the PDP National Chairman, Adamu Mua’zu,
said the party is committed in reversing all trends for the
benefit of Nigerians irrespective of any political differences.
The former governor and Chairman, who is also Sokoto PDP
Elders’ Forum, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, said the party is
ready to take over from the APC-led state government. He
also promised to deliver the state for President Jonathan next
month.
