Five commissioners in the Enugu State executive council have resigned their appointments to enable them contest different positions in the forthcoming general elections in the state.
Those, who resigned are Chukwuka Utazi, commissioner for transport; Dr. Chukwuemeka Ujam, commissioner for lands; Joe Mamah in charge of ministry of tourism as well as Ikechukwu Ugwuegede, commissioner for capital development authority.
Others, who resigned from the government to pursue their political ambitions, are the Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects, Uche Nwobodo, and his Public Enlightenment counterpart, Paul Nnajiofor; Chief of Staff, Government House, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo, and the Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation, Okey Mba.
Apart from the immediate past Commissioner for Transport Chukwuka Utazi, who wants to go to the Senate, the other three commissioners are gunning for the House of Representatives with Ujam leading the list of aspirants in Nkanu Ease/ West Federal Constituency.
Speaking with newsmen on why he resigned, Utazi, who is also a lawyer, said all the odds favoured him, as he was endowed with the capacity, training and public service experience. He stated that the zoning policy in Nsukka zone also favoured him, as his area, Uzo-Uwani Local Government, was yet to produce a senator.
Utazi said also that as a former member of Enugu State House of Assembly, he understood the workings of the legislature and, therefore, would not learn on the job.
